International Race Week is designed to allow local skippers and crew to race against overseas sailors, with the aim of promoting friendship and links between the Bermuda fleet and other international yacht and dinghy clubs. Generally, the top four local crews are invited to sail in their own boats against the overseas visitors, who can either charter a local boat at no cost or bring in their own boat for the regatta (as long as it meets the local rules). It is encouraged that overseas skippers sail with a local sailor if they are short of crew. It should be noted that participants must bring their own sails and are advised to accompany them rather than ship ahead. All crews are expected to register and weigh in for the event on the Saturday prior to racing. The sailing begins on a Sunday and finishes the following Friday, with the Wednesday being a rest day. There are 9 races over the week (2 per day and one on the Friday), with each race being 1½ - 2 hours in duration, depending upon conditions. Prizegiving takes place on the Friday after the final day of racing. If you are flying to Bermuda you should aim to be in Bermuda on the Friday evening or the Saturday morning for boat preparation. Most overseas crewmembers leave on the Saturday or Sunday after racing finishes.
