The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is hosting the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week from April 28th to May 4th, 2007.

Bermuda International Invitational Race Week has become an established international yachting fixture each spring - attracting top skippers from many countries. All classes with an active racing program in Bermuda are invited to participate - this includes Etchells, International One Designs, J105’s, Comets, Lasers, Snipes and J/24s.

IRW 2007 - Boats

The Bermuda J/24 Class makes available local J/24 boats (number limited) to international crews invited for Race Week at no cost. Boats are allocated by draw, and there are generally spare boats available if there is a serious breakdown.

Participants must bring their own sails and are encouraged to bring sheets and spares as appropriate. Required equipment for racing and safety is provided with the boat.

Typically the initial Saturday is spent working on the boats – bringing a variety of spares is advisable. In return for loaning the boats the owners receive advice and assistance in improving the racing effectiveness of their yachts. It is important to note that these are not charter boats, and that it is expected that they will be treated accordingly.

Local boats are all measured frequently by the IJCA. In fact, many of the boats in the fleet were used in October 2005 for the ISAF Women’s Match Racing Worlds, so were equalised as part of the preparation process for that event. Please note - a damage deposit (credit card) of USD $500 is taken for crews requiring a J/24. This deposit is returned less breakages after Race Week.

It is possible to ocean freight a J/24 for Race Week. Cost estimates for this are around USD $3,000 round trip from New Jersey. Any overseas boats used in the regatta must conform to the local class rules - contact the Bermuda J/24 Class for more details.
